What’s with the Tiny Roots name?

How did Tiny Roots come to fruition you might ask? Well it all began back in 2014 with a tiny garden on an equestrian farm in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Luke Lucier and Becky Deering were living together on the farm at the time. They loved the idea of growing a garden together so they planted a 16’x30’ garden plot and started farming! Of course it wasn’t quite that simple but this tiny garden did plant the seed (pun intended) for Tiny Roots Organic Farm.

Soon after giving the tiny garden a whirl, Luke and Becky set sail for Richmond, Maine for some simple living in their newly built tiny house. Both of them were hooked on gardening so they flipped their front lawn into raised garden beds. It was a mad science experiment but nonetheless they learned the basics of raising crops here. They actually attained their first organic certification here through the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA).

In the spring of 2019, Luke and Becky broke ground on the land that is now home to Tiny Roots Organic Farm. It was an exciting time with lots of novel ideas and fresh happenings but neither Luke nor Becky knew what to call their farm. Becky said to Luke, “Why not Tiny Roots? We started with a tiny garden, lived in a tiny house, and now we’re farming on a tiny farm.” Luke said “Voila!” and here we are today.

Welcome to Tiny Roots!
